Quinta do Crasto
Quinta do Crasto on yksi Douro-laakson tunnetuista historiallisista viinitiloista.
Tilan omistajasuvun historia alkoi vuonna 1918, kun portviinitalo Constantino de Almeidan perustaja hankki Quinta do Craston perheelleen. Vuonna 1981 Leonor Roquette ja hänen puolisonsa Jorge Roquette ottivat tilan johdon vastuulleen. He uudistivat ja laajensivat viinitarhoja sekä käynnistivät Douro DOC -viinien tuotannon. Tila pullotti ensimmäiset omat Douro-viininsä vuonna 1994. Nykyisin sitä johtaa suvun neljäs sukupolvi.
Quinta do Craston päätila käsittää noin 135 hehtaaria, joista 74 hehtaaria on viinitarhoja.
Quinta do Craston viinivalikoimassa yhdistyvät historialliset tarhat, Douro-joen jyrkkien rinteiden vaativa kasvuympäristö ja modernisoitu viininvalmistus. Viinien tyylissä korostuvat kypsä hedelmäisyys, rakenne ja tiivis maku, jota alueen olosuhteissa tasapainottavat raikkaus ja hapokkuus.

Quinta do Crasto is one of the Douro Valley’s best-known historic wine estates. It is renowned for its extensive range of Port wines and high-quality Douro reds. The estate lies on the right bank of the Douro River, between Régua and Pinhão, in the Cima Corgo subregion. Its name derives from the Latin word castrum, meaning “fortress”. Written records of the estate and its wine production date back to 1615.
The estate’s present ownership dates back to 1918, when Constantino de Almeida, founder of the Port house that bears his name, acquired Quinta do Crasto for his family. In 1981, Leonor Roquette and her husband Jorge Roquette took over its management. They renovated and expanded the vineyards and began producing Douro DOC wines. The estate bottled its first Douro wines under its own name in 1994. Today, it is managed by the family’s fourth generation.
The Quinta do Crasto estate covers approximately 135 hectares, of which 74 hectares are planted with vines. A significant proportion of its vineyards are old, with some vines more than a century old. Its best-known plots include Vinha Maria Teresa and Vinha da Ponte. Several traditional Douro varieties grow side by side in the old vineyards, giving the winemaking team a diverse foundation for wines that express the distinctive character of each site.
Cima Corgo has a hot, dry climate. The estate’s steep, sun-exposed slopes consist mainly of schist soils, which retain heat and encourage vine roots to reach deep into the ground in search of water. The oldest vines grow on traditional stone terraces. Newer vineyards have also been planted in vertical rows and on terraces that follow the contours of the slopes. The dry conditions and the nature of the soils limit yields and call for careful work in the vineyards.
Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz are among the key red grape varieties. Quinta do Crasto produces both single-varietal wines and blends that reflect the region’s traditional diversity of grape varieties. Its range includes Douro DOC white and red wines, as well as Vintage, LBV and Colheita Ports. The estate also produces extra virgin olive oil from its own olive groves.
Quinta do Crasto’s wines bring together historic vineyards, the demanding growing conditions of the Douro’s steep slopes and modernised winemaking. Their style is marked by ripe fruit, structure and concentration, balanced by freshness and acidity.
