Champagne Jean Vesselle

Champagne Jean Vesselle on perheomisteinen viinitila Bouzyn Grand Cru -kylässä Montagne de Reimsin eteläosassa. Vessellen suku on viljellyt alueen kalkkipitoisia maita yli 300 vuoden ajan.

Champagne Jean Vesselle is a family-owned estate located in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, in the southern part of the Montagne de Reims. The Vesselle family has cultivated the region’s chalky soils for more than 300 years. Jean Vesselle began bottling Champagne under his own name in 1972, and today the estate is managed by his daughter, Delphine Vesselle, together with her husband, David.

The estate operates as a récoltant-manipulant, producing its Champagnes from grapes grown in the family’s own vineyards. Its approximately 15 hectares of vines are situated in and around Bouzy, as well as in Loches-sur-Ource in the Côte des Bar. Around 90% of the vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir and 10% with Chardonnay.

Bouzy’s south-facing slopes, chalk-rich soils and sunny microclimate provide excellent conditions for Pinot Noir. Here, the variety achieves remarkable ripeness, giving the wines richness, structure and expressive fruit. Pinot Noir lies at the heart of Jean Vesselle’s Champagnes, and the estate is particularly renowned for its vinous Blanc de Noirs Champagnes and traditional Bouzy Rouge still red wine.

Delphine and David cultivate their vineyards according to sustainable principles. The estate holds both HVE and Viticulture Durable en Champagne certifications. Practices such as vineyard cover crops, rainwater collection and solar energy are used to protect the soils and promote the natural balance of the vines.

Jean Vesselle’s Champagnes combine the power and ripe fruit characteristic of Bouzy Pinot Noir with the freshness and refinement expected of fine Champagne. The house style is distinctive, gastronomic and deeply expressive of its origins. The range extends from classic cuvées to Brut Nature and saignée rosé Champagnes, as well as wines highlighting individual vineyards and vintages.
